The changes to licensing deals - which exclude Amazon, Google, Microsoft and Alibaba, and will take effect from October 1 - come after smaller EU competitors complained to regulators, but Amazon’s cloud service AWS slammed the move’s apparent ulterior motives.
“Microsoft is now doubling-down on the same harmful practices by implementing even more restrictions in an unfair attempt to limit the competition it faces,” its spox said, while Google’s VP for government affairs claimed customers were being ignored over “what works best for Microsoft.”
